By erich, on May 20th, 2008 I received the following error today when trying to open a samba share on a FreeBSD system from a clean Windows Server 2003 install:
“no network provider accepted the given path.”
“PC LOAD LETTER, what the fsck does that mean?!” I thought to myself. After some digging, I found that the default LAN Manager authentication . . . → Read More: no network provider accepted the given path
By erich, on May 9th, 2008 I recently created a solar water heater for a pool in France. Since I had a limited set of tools and could not make anything permanent I had to use materials that were cheap and reusable or recyclable. What I ended up with was a 50 meter long by 13 millimeter in diameter irrigation hose.

By erich, on May 6th, 2008 I’ve been traveling recently and on my travels I have searched for pinball machines, however none have been found. Until now!
I was in France last November and during that time I never saw a pinball machine. Of course I didn’t travel too far out of the Gard département.
Three weeks ago I flew to . . . → Read More: Pinball: France has a pinball machine!
By erich, on January 13th, 2008 A while ago, I picked up a several 17″ LCD monitors for pocket change. They were old monitors from a school district in the Seattle area that had upgraded their computers. The only problem with the screens was that they didn’t have any stands. I’ve had the screens for almost a year and I haven’t . . . → Read More: How to: Make a cheap monitor stand
By erich, on January 7th, 2008 Sometimes I wish that I could kick my own ass.
A long time ago, in a far away galaxy, I installed slackware on a hard drive. The thought was that I could use this drive as an emergency drive to power-on and back-up dying systems or resurect dead ones. So clever I was that I . . . → Read More: I'm kicking my ass, do you mind?
By erich, on January 7th, 2008 Offline. what?! My server, offline?!
“No way” I said to my self while traveling in France when trying to log into my server. There’s no way a fully redundant server has failed. UPS, dual CPU, hardware RAID5 with hot-spare. Down. Out. Not responding.
Thanks to Brian, I was finally able to move my file server . . . → Read More: Offline?! Burning?!
By erich, on December 18th, 2007 Thanks to a friend, I’ve been introduced to variety of new music recently. Stuff that I’d have a hard time finding on my own.
One of the artists that I really like is RJD2. He started mixing in Columbus, OH, and then joined a rap group called MHz. Although RJD2′s genre is listed as Hip-hop, . . . → Read More: Who knows what tomorrow will bring
By erich, on September 4th, 2007 Although I cannot compete with Brian’s pinball repair, I do have some of my own that I should post one of these days. However, since I’m too busy playing my Night Rider it’ll be a rainy day when I do post something about it. Instead I’d like to offer a beginners guide to lighting an . . . → Read More: Eric's got new swag!
By brian, on June 2nd, 2007 In my Williams Phoenix pinball machine, there are two ‘kickers’ and three ‘pop/jet bumpers’. They are not completely under CPU control. Basically the way they work is the ball hits the (special) switch which goes to the driver board into an AND gate (shared with the CPU’s PIO output for that solenoid) which goes to . . . → Read More: Phoenix: The Game Over Signal & Special Switches
By brian, on June 1st, 2007 After all that work replacing the interboard connector on my Phoenix pinball machine, I’m now treated with problems from the sound board. I think this machine has it out for me: Quick drains on the balls in play, letting my girlfriend & her friend consistanty win over me. Its saying “Just put me out of . . . → Read More: Phoenix: Sound Board Woes
